I've been playing around on some random maps trying to hit specific targets from distance with a mortar and was wondering...Does anybody else find mortars remotely useful?
And if so, do you have any tips and tricks associated with their use?

| Mortars are remotely useful for raiding, not much else it can do. It can be a good defense against jumping kabutos, but the more lag you have the less effective it is. |

I remember playing a game with Puglin against another player. He had them holed up in a bunch of houses so I climbed a mountain and dropped some mortars in behind them.
So I'm thinking...Useful for funnelling enemies into a trap, or away from certain points? _________________ Nothing ruins a beautiful day like imminent catastrophic ecologial disaster. |

Yes, but it deters players for nearly 1 second. Even then, you have crazies every so often that go right through it.
Funneling enemies hasn't been explored too much either, because it remains a futile effort to move around experienced players. |

What's the maximum team size on an average Giants map?
If you have Enough mortars... 8) _________________ Nothing ruins a beautiful day like imminent catastrophic ecologial disaster.

Number of players on a team with mortars:
(In the purspective of fighting against players with mortars)
1 - Very easy to dodge and an easy target to kill
2 - If co-ordinated currectly, rather tough/difficult to dodge, and should still be easy-medium to at least one player
3 - If two players co-ordinate very well, could be rather difficult to dodge and kill one target
4 - Very difficult to dodge if all four players are some-what co-ordinated with eachother and can definetly get at least one kill
5+ - If proper timing is used, can seem like a continuous bombing of mortars; also very difficult even for a shielder to dodge and see properly to kill at least one player
All depends on player experience in my opinion. _________________ Don't rush me! I get paid by the hour |

It would be hard to keep the co-ordination up though, once the attacking team wises up to the plan and gets a little tactical...maybe by using rockets or snipers to flush the mortars out from their spots, or building a Mineshaft behind.
Co-ordinated barrages would be most effective in defending/attacking bases, rather than in the no-mans land in between. _________________ Nothing ruins a beautiful day like imminent catastrophic ecologial disaster. |

Well... If you had a really truly enormous game, as in impossibly large (say, 16 vs 16), then you could have, say, 10 people laying down heavy mortar fire while the other team is in the air, then switching to prox launchers. When the other team lands, they gotta dodge the mortars, and they'd be pretty easy targets. Mainly mortars would just scatter the enemy, but you'd get the occaisional lucky frag, too. _________________ My soliloquoy is: anthropomorphising antidisestablishmentarianists is as floccinausinihilipilifacational as magnetoencephalography. Plus it would break up any organisation the attackers had as well. _________________ Nothing ruins a beautiful day like imminent catastrophic ecologial disaster. |

If you have enough mortars in sync, the combined explosions will cause the oppositions computers to crash/eyes to melt.
Either way; Insta-win. _________________ Nothing ruins a beautiful day like imminent catastrophic ecologial disaster. |
